Biography & Professional Background

Dr. Mahmood Piraee, PhD, PharmD is a licensed clinical pharmacist, molecular biologist, and healthcare technology founder. He established Groupe Arex IA Inc. (a Montréal AI health technology startup) to pioneer voice-first companion software for seniors living with chronic illnesses, with a primary focus on age-related macular degeneration.

Dr. Piraee observed firsthand that clinical recommendations (such as daily AREDS2 eye vitamin formulations and high-carotenoid Mediterranean diet intake) frequently fail because older adults with impaired central vision struggle with small medication labels and smartphone screens. Under his leadership, Groupe Arex IA Inc. engineered MacuCoach™ (https://macucoach.com), an empathetic spoken AI companion built using Google Cloud and Gemini.

Clinical Research Leadership

Dr. Piraee is currently leading Groupe Arex IA Inc. in preparing a 12-week clinical feasibility and usability pilot study in collaboration with the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).
